Cellular & Wifi

Cellular reception isn’t strong anywhere on the property. Your best chance is at the peak. Depending on your service provider, you may not be able to connect with the outside world during your stay at Porters Peak (we like to think of it as a digital detox).

AC & Heating

Cabins & Chalets: Our units are built for year-round weather, so they have a propane fireplace to keep you nice and toasty in the winter. They are not cooled in the summer; however, there are several windows for air flow to pass through.

Tents & Domes: Our tents and domes have wood stoves to keep you warm under the canvas all winter. Our tents have windows and screened doors in the summer to allow the breeze to flow through.

Running Water

We currently do not offer running water. We do provide water through a 20L water jug with a hand pump. We leave a spare jug at your site but are happy to replace them as needed.

Fire Safety Guidelines

The safety of our guests is our top priority. In addition to our outdoor firepits, our tents are equipped with fireplaces to enhance your glamping experience. Please use them responsibly and follow the guidelines outlined below.

We kindly request all guests adhere to any fire restrictions the Nova Scotia government puts forth. These may include temporary bans on open fires or specific regulations during periods of high fire risk. It is the responsibility of all guests to stay informed and comply with these restrictions for their own safety and that of others.

The fireplaces located inside our glamping tents are included in any fire restrictions.

Each accommodation is equipped with CO2 and smoke detectors to detect potential fire hazards early. Please notify the campground staff immediately if you notice any issues with these detectors.

Fire extinguishers are available inside and outside of each accommodation. We recommend you familiarize yourself with their location and instructions for use. Water buckets are provided at each fire pit within the campground. These buckets serve as an additional fire safety measure and can extinguish small fires or hot embers.

For the safety of all guests and the protection of our natural surroundings, fireworks are strictly prohibited within the campground. This minimizes the risk of accidental fires and ensures a peaceful environment for everyone

Exercise caution when handling open flames. Follow these guidelines to maintain a safe environment:

  • Never leave an open flame unattended.

  • Keep flammable materials at a safe distance from the fire.

  • Only use designated campfire firepits and ensure they are completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Pet Guidelines

Yes! Your dog or cat is welcome at Porters Peak.

To help make your getaway enjoyable for everyone, there are a few things that we ask:

Please…

A maximum of two pets per room will be permitted.

We suggest you bring your pet's bedding, clean-up towels, food and water bowls and poop bags. Please do not use the linen for your pet.

Clean up after your dog - where possible, use a poo bag, then please ensure it makes it to one of the garbages.

Keep your dogs under strict control (on a leash if necessary) around the grounds, the lake, and the trails.

Be respectful and aware that barking, whimpering, or any other noise can disturb other guests.

Don't leave your dog unattended inside a vehicle or the accommodations at any time.

Please bring your towels for your pets to clean them before entering the cabin, tent or dome.

You are financially responsible for any damages caused by your pet or excessive cleaning charges.

Paddleboards

The paddleboards are free to use and located conveniently by the main dock. We ask that you return after an hour of use to allow others to use them. For your safety, we have provided adult-sized life jackets by the dock. Feel free to utilize these jackets during your paddleboarding adventure. It's also essential to ensure your children's safety, so we kindly request that you bring life jackets specifically designed for them.

The buoys in the water are located on large rocks. Please do not approach them, as this can break the fin on the paddleboard. Also, please do not climb or stand on the rocks. The rocks can be slippery, and we do not want guests hurt.

Swimming

Yes! Our lake is swimmable. While the lake beckons, we kindly request that you refrain from jumping off any docks or rocks around it due to its shallowness. However, fear not! About 40 feet past the dock, you'll find deeper areas to take the plunge and enjoy a refreshing swim.

Rain

While we certainly hope you have sunny days during your stay, rainy days have their special charm. Curl up in bed with a good book, play classic board games, or draw a masterpiece in one of the cabin’s colouring books.

Or go for it - throw on your raincoat and boots and enjoy a walk in the woods.

Bugs

Yes, there are bugs. After all, this is the great outdoors. Though we do our best to un-invite them, you may see ants, spiders, ticks, and unidentified crawlies. We use an environmentally safe spray in guest accommodation areas to control mosquitos and other biting insects. The spray is safe for pets and children, but please let us know if you have any concerns.

Camp Chairs

You don't need to bring camping chairs for the fire; we have seating. However, if you want chairs to bring near the water, you must bring your own.

Fireworks

Out of respect for other guests, pets, and safety in general, we have a strict no-fireworks policy. We take fire safety very seriously. Your group will be required to vacate the premises immediately without a refund. Please leave them at home!

Pitching Additional Tents

We do not allow personal tents on sites not designated as tenting sites.

Quiet Times

Music at a moderate volume, small speakers, guitars, and campfire sing-alongs are all acceptable during the day. However, please be mindful and respectful of other guests who do not wish to listen to loud music and want to enjoy peace and quiet.

Quiet hours are from 10:00pm - 8:00am daily.

Construction

As we strive to bring you even more joy and excitement, you may notice some construction activity around the property. Don't worry, this shouldn't disrupt your stay! While equipment and piles of gravel might catch your eye, rest assured that we're working hard to create an even better experience for you. If you do have any concerns, please let us know.
